If you ask me “how can I read iBooks on non-Apple e-readers”, I will answer you “convert iBook to PDF please”. Why?

You probably have tried to add or transfer iBooks to devices like kindle, Nook, Kobo, etc, but you failed, and get messages like below:

There are two main reasons why you can’t read iBooks on non-Apple e-readers.

Apple FairPlay DRM on iBooks:

Most ebooks purchased or downloaded from iBookstore have Apple Fairplay DRM protections, Which prevent us from reading the eBook on a non-Apple e-readers, like Amazon Kindle, Nook, Kobo, etc.

Incompatibility of iBooks format:

Even if some of your iBooks weren’t DRM protected, the iBooks format like interactive .ibooks and Epub is not supported by other devices.

In this following article, we’ll introduce a simple and quick solution that will help you convert iBooks to PDF. I would say it’s the easiest way you can find to convert iBook to PDF to make the ebook compatible with more devices.

To make it simple, you need 3 steps to convert Apple iBooks to PDF.

  • Download iBooks.

  • Remove Apple iBooks DRM, make it convertable.

  • Convert the DRM-free iBooks to PDF.

How to find and download iBooks?

So, where exactly are the iBooks you buy and added store? Unlike iTunes, There’s no Books folder in your user directory, and there’s no Show in Finder option either.

But don’t worry, It’s slightly hidden, and you can still find the iBooks library manually. Just following our step-by-step instructions.

You’ll find your iBooks in one of these two locations:

If you have disabled iCloud sync for iBooks:

If you have enabled iCloud sync for iBooks, they’re stored in Mobile Documents folder.

You can’t access the second location the usual way. If you try to navigate there manually in Finder, it will switch to showing you the iCloud documents folder instead. You’ll have to open the folder via the Terminal app with this command:

open ~_Library_Mobile Documents_iCloud~com~apple~iBooks_Documents

Not sure if you have enabled cloud sync for your iBooks files? go to System Preferences > iCloud > iCloud Drive > Options… to find out. Sync is on if the checkbox next to iBooks appears selected.

TunesKit iBook Copy is ONLY compatible with Mac OS X 10.9, 10.10, 10.11 and 10.12. It is *NOT* compatible with macOS 10.13 or later. The decvelopers have been unable to overcome the technical limitations of the newer operating systems for the past 3 years now. So please update this article so that others won’t make the mistake of purchasing $35 obsolete software that’s incompatible with modern operating systems.
